A Promise To You [pangako Sa’yo]

October 30th, 2008

‘Said I already had my fill of soap operas and said never again. But inspite of myself, I go with the 10 million everyday viewers of ABS-CBN’s triple teleserye’s. Though in my case, I’m only “into” the first one, PANGAKO SA’YO, and I have my reasons (which reasons know nothing of) for watching it.

The story of Ina and Angelo and Bea Bianca is now a household name. I saw the pilot episode just to see Jericho Rosales, hoping it’d get very crummy later on but I was wrong, very wrong. Jericho proved to be an effective, consummate actor nadadala lahat ng mga kaeksena niya. Indignation rise out of me, and pain and love and heartbreak because I see it ‘become’ in Angelo Buenavista, Jericho’s character. Last Friday lang, after Ina (Kristine Hermosa) finally learned of Angelo-and-Bea Bianca’s (Vanessa del Bianco) extracurriculars and broke up with him and kicked him out of the house, Angelo was so miserable the following episodes since, trying everything to apologize and win Ina back. I feel for Ina’s pain and betrayal and yet, if you see his eyes that Friday night in the office lobby with him waiting for her with peace-offering flowers, without much words there, the scene was so powerful it moved me to tears. Then after Ina ignored him, he went back to their house, begging in the rain for Ina to let him in the house and into her life again. He’s crying but he wasn’t nagwawala, and Ina covered her ears na lang to drown out his beggings because she’s also hurting and yearning and dying to have him back.

Uuhhh… I get carried away. But you should see Angelo’s sorry state. You would want to take him in and hug him and tell him all things are now forgiven. You’d promise everything to him that time just to see him consoled. Nakakadala talaga yung series. Talent Center of ABS-CBN has indeed found a gold mine in Jericho. He’s one of the gifted actors that was ‘born’ with it. He’ll go places with the sensitive attack of the roles he play with a wide range of emotions to display. Di ako fan noong una, but now I think I’m a believer. He was so effective that I forget the Jericho and know only of the Angelo character. And sappy as it may sounds, I’m never embarrassed that I did shed a tear. It’s for the love of Ina & Angelo that I take part in, because I see it’s one love worthy of all the pain fighting for it.

NOW I am officially becoming corny… Sue me.

Dessert Tips: Enjoy These Pie Possibilities

October 29th, 2008

(NC)There may not be a better dessert than a mouth-watering slice of pie fresh from the oven. But serving your pie with a dollop of whipped cream, or “a la mode” with a cool scoop of vanilla ice cream can dress up this treat. Add a dash more creativity and a humble pie becomes a true work of art that will have your family and friends coming back for seconds.

“You can make your own pie from scratch or serve one our new line of frozen “unbaked” pies -that look and taste just like they’re homemade,” says Chris Glowienka, spokesperson for Sara Lee. “Either way, here are some other ‘pie possibilities’ to elevate this favourite dessert from delectable comestible to mouthwatering masterpiece.”

• Make individual treats by cutting a baked and chilled pumpkin pie into bite-sized squares. Place a decorative toothpick in each bite.

• Sprinkle the top of your apple pie with shredded cheddar cheese three to five minutes before the end of baking.

• Break up apple pie leftovers into an ovenproof dish, cover with grated cheese and raisins. Microwave or run under the broiler until the cheese melts. Yum!

• Remove the streusel topping from one of Sara Lee’s frozen, unbaked Dutch Apple Pies and place it in a bowl. Mix the streusel with raisins nuts, dried fruit, or a combination. Replace streusel topping on the frozen pie and bake according to instructions. For a festive holiday flourish, cool the pie, and then add whipped topping and cranberry sauce.

• For a decadent “Pecan Sundae”, cut out a circle of pecan pie and top with a scoop of butter pecan ice cream. Drizzle with butterscotch sauce, pile on whipped topping and garnish with crust crumbles from the pie and top with a maraschino cherry. Eat it and weep.

Why Silviu from Mozambique Goes on Holiday to Chamonix Village

October 29th, 2008

Chamonix town is a prestigious holiday destination with the infamous Mont Blanc as well as jagged glaciers. The group enjoy going snowboarding or from time to time visiting the Aiguille du Midi. I invariably travel from Park Rapids and stay at a Chamonix luxury chalet during my holiday.

My family and I used to visited The Shilla Seoul however it rarely met the standards of its description: The Shilla Hotel-Seoul is located approximately four miles from the downtown business district, 19 miles from Gimpo Airport, and 42 miles from Incheon International Airport. There is a free shuttle between the hotel and the Itaewon shopping area. Local attractions include Namsan-gol Traditional Folk Vilalge, Seoul Statino, Deoksu Palace, Dongdaemun Stadium, Korean House, Namdaemun Market, and Myeong-dong.Hotel amenities include 24-hour room service, wireless Internet, daily laundry, shoeshine, 24-hour messaging service, 24-hour manager, translation services, fax/photocopy service, and business center. The Shilla is home to one of the best fitness clubs in Asia, featuring a medical clinic, computerized weight machine, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, jogging tracks, three types of saunas, bodisonic chairs, locker rooms, and shower facilities. There is also an indoor golf range including a pro shop and golf instruction. Onsite dining options include a variety of cuisines including Italian, French, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese, as well as an international buffet/caf?? and a bakery. There are two bars on the premises the main bar, which offers live music, and the Pointe, which presents karaoke nights along with its menu of beverages.Guest rooms feature mini-bars, cable TVs, telephone, bathroom telephone, hairdryers, radios, in-room safes, slippers, shoe cleaners, shoehorns, bathrobes, flashlights, A/C, and bath amenities.

On the other hand in Chamonix village the luxury chalet is always outstanding. In addition dining out in my families’ favorite bar, Cannolis Restaurant, eating mint julep cheesecake is a pleasure. Chamonix is a big enough destination to guarantee that there is lots for the tourist to do. Amongst other things it includes a ice rink and a plethora of shops, Chamonix provides a combination of walking, alpine charm and tourist attractions which barely any French ski resorts can match.

Taj Weekes & Adowa

October 29th, 2008

Artist: Taj Weekes & Adowa
Title: Hope & Doubt
Genre: Reggae-Rock-World
Label: Alpha Pocket Records-http://www.alphapocket.com
Website: http://tajandadowa.com

In the past, I have shied away from covering Reggae music because it all seemed to sound the same to me, realistically that could apply to any style of music after a while though. I have to thank Taj Weekes for opening my mind to his wonderful music. Yes, there is that familiar stylistic backbeat on many tracks; however, I heard many different genres of music come bubbling to the surface on Hope & Doubt.

World music comes to the forefront of this recording with the use of a multitude of instruments. Sax, flute, trumpet, various percussive instruments, and amazing bass playing courtesy of Rads Desiree, are all part of the equation on the 10 tracks offered on this disc.

Weekes has the perfect set of pipes for Reggae, his tone and approach is well suited for the style of music. His lyrics do not take a back seat to the music either. On “Lonesome In Babylon” he sings-Said I long for dreary souls who slip away/distraught with tomorrow destroy today/said I long for dreary souls who seek a way. Weekes sounds sad yet he offers hope in the face of doubt. Just as the title suggest there are two sides to every story, the yin and yang and positive and negative, it all adds up to the realities of life we deal with daily, nothing is black and white when it comes to individuality.

Although his message has a serious tone, the music makes it a little lighter and more palatable and it gives you a feeling when the CD is over that yes indeed, there is hope left in a troubled world, all we need is compassion, love and music to help the change come about. A little magical Reggae never hurts either.

A Fantasy No More

October 27th, 2008

There was a woman in the water.

I thought. “I better call the Bridge and tell them.”

I was about to turn for the Bridge.

But I thought to myself.

“Her arms are waving at me and beckoning me to come in the water with her.”

She had a radiant smile and when I looked further, I realized that she was wearing no clothes. She had the most beautiful body that I had ever seen.

After months at sea, the site of a beautiful womans breasts were wonderful. I felt like jumping in the water to rescue her. But I knew we had a protocal for such things and I knew I had to get a grip on myself.

I thought to myself. “Oh my God. I’m having a mermaid fantasy. Of course she can’t be real. After all were a thousand miles from the nearest land and thats even a long swim for a mermaid.”

I knew deep down that she couldn’t be real, but I wanted her to be real. I needed her to be real. After months at sea without a woman, I was going to enjoy the sight of her regardless if she was real or not.

I thought. “I have to keep my wits about me.”

But, I couldn’t help but stare. She kept waving her arms at me and revealing the most perfect breasts I had ever seen.

Just then my shipmate Don appeared. He said to me.

“You see it to. Don’t you?”

I said. “Tell me first what you see.”

Don shouted out. “I see Jesus.”

I asked. “Are you seeing Jesus as a Woman or as a Man?”

Don replied. “Everyone knows Jesus is a Man.”

I replied back. “I like to keep an open mind on that subject.”

Don just laughed and said. “Man, you’re whipped.”

I thought to myself. “Who knows whats really out there, if anything? But for sure, we all need to hit a port soon.”

I thought to myself. “If I’m seeing Mermaids, the entire crew has to be crackers by now.”

But then I thought to myself. “Maybe guys like I and Don, were really the lucky ones. Maybe each of us seeing what we wanted to see would keep us sane.”

A few weeks later, we hit a port at last. I went to Jesse’s Cafe to unwind and have a decent meal. Jesse was sort of my little secret. She was a girl that could really cook and she always made you feel at home.

I glanced up as I noticed the Cafe door open. A woman with the most fantastic body that I had ever seen, walked through the door.

I thought to myself. “I’ve only seen that ravashing a woman once before and it was in my recent mermaid fantasy.”

As I poured my beer, I noticed that the ravishing mermaid was walking over to me. She had a very sexy blouse on and she had plenty of opened buttons showing off the cleavage of her magnificent breasts.

I felt sheer delight as I watched her breasts bounce as she walked. Looking down I noticed she was wearing a very short and tight skirt. She moved like a sex machine. She was 100% certified pure woman.

She smiled and said. “I’ve seen you on television.”

I smiled back and said. “Thank you for the compliment, but I’m not an actor, I’m just a Sailor.”

She said yes. “The Yankee Sailor that said eh seven times on Japanese television.”

I laughed and said. “Oh, you saw that eh.”

She said. “Yes. I’m a reporter and I tried to talk with you soon after I watched the news clip. You made my fantasy change flags.”

I asked? “Change flags?”

She said. “Yes. Before that news clip, I had always envisioned a rustic Canadian Sailor in my fantasy, but you changed all that.”

I laughed and said to her. “I recently had a mermaid fantasy that looked just like you.”

She laughed and said. “Wow, you just topped any other line I ever heard. Why do you sound so Canadian?”

I explained to her. “Since the day I was born, there was a Canadian family from Newfoundland that lived next door to me. My family and theirs were very close and I picked up an enormous amount of their words and manerisms without realising it.”

She said. “I find your voice incredibly sexy.”

“Thank you.” I said, as her sexy talk was now giving me a throbbing erection.

She asked. “Why didn’t the Navy want anyone to interview you?”

I explained to her. “That I had no idea that the TV cameras were rolling and I had no clearance to say what I said. Someone had asked me to say a few words for their scrap book. And thats all I thought I was doing.”

She said. “No wonder the interview was so good. Thats why it went off as being so natural.”

I thought to myself. “Oh baby. Do I ever feel like getting all natural with you. Months at sea without a woman and now I’m sitting here talking. Oh, I don’t want to really have a conversation with you right now. I just want to make love to you. Oh, yeah, lets just go somewhere private.”

I told her. “The press may have liked it. But it didn’t do much for my Naval Career. I was told that they got a very angry call from Washington and blamed me for setting our relations back about ten years with the Soviet Union.”

I thought to myself. “What the hell am I doing. Why am I talking about the Russians to her? Screw the Russians. I haven’t had anything in months.”

She laughed and said. “Oh yes. I can see why Washington may have been upset. That clip of you pointing to the North and saying that Japan and the US must stay unified as long as there is that evil empire to the North.”

I said to her. “Look, this is all of the record.”

She smiled and said, “I understand.”

Just then Jesse brought over her plate, and asked. “Would you rather have it at this table?”

She said. “Do you mind?”

I replied. “Of course not, I always keep this table reserved for my favorite mermaids.”

As we talked, I realized that my mermaid, was not only ravishing, but she was also quite brilliant, very political and had a sense of humor and wit, that was very unique. I went for her, hook, line and sinker.

All my little worries about Jimmy Carter and the Russians were quickly fading away. Then she pulled her chair back and crossed her legs. She had the sexiest legs I had ever seen. I couldn’t even imagine sexier legs in a wet dream as nice as hers.

As she crossed her legs, her skirt rode up her legs and revealed a beautiful pair of thighs. Then she leaned back in the chair and I could notice her blouse tugging at her very beautiful breasts. Then she uncrossed her legs and leaned back some more on the chair while letting her legs spread out wide from her skirt, further revealing her very firm and sexy thighs.

As her skirt rode further up her legs, I told her. “I can’t help but stare at your beautiful thighs. This my first day in port after being out a few months.”

She smiled and seemed pleased and thanked me for the compliment. Then she leaned over and placed her hand on my knee and said. “Your quite a treat yourself.”

I laughed and said. “Ah, I bet you say that to all your sailors.”

Suddenly she bent down to take something out of her bag. As she bent over I got a birds eye view of her very shapley breasts.

She pulled a pen out of her bag and said. “You’ve got to write your ships phone number down for me.”

I watched as the pen fell out of her hand and on to my lap. As she reached for the pen on my lap, her fingers brushed my pants zipper and seemed to linger longer than would be expected. She didn’t say anything, but I noticed she had quite a smile on her face.

She turned and said to me. “I know this very remote part of the beach where I take all my Sailors. Would you like to see it?”

I said sure. “I would love to see it.”

It was truely a beautiful and romantic spot. As I gazed into her eyes I gently pressed my lips on hers. After a few short seconds, I realised that her lips were as hungry for mine as I were for hers.

As I put my arms around her and felt her breasts press against my chest, it felt wonderful again to smell a womans sweet perfume.

She twirled her tongue around mine as I drove my tongue deep inside her mouth. I unbuttoned her blouse and started to kiss her upper breasts as I felt her hands unbuttoning my shirt. I unfastened her bra as she bit sharply into my neck.

Her breasts felt wonderful to touch. They were firm and nicely shaped. As I started to swirl my tongue around her nipples, I could feel her hands unbuckling my belt. My heart raced as her hand reached over to adjust the lever to push the car seat back.

It felt wonderful to be with a woman again. But she was very special. She was a fantasy that came true. She made all the trials and tribulations of the journey worth it.

We dressed and then took a wonderful walk, hand in hand on the beach as the full Moon reflected off the water. I had found my fantasy mermaid and she had found her fantasy sailor.

A Blowing Bubble Activity that will Blow the Kids Away!

October 24th, 2008

I bet you haven’t given this blowing bubble activity any thought as a child party activity?

I’m not talking about little kids blowing little bubbles from those little containers - no, I’m talking about blowing HUGE bubbles. I bet you didn’t even know that it was possible? Yes, your bigger kids and their friends can have a lot of fun with this blowing bubble activity and what’s more, it’s inexpensive too… especially if you know how to make the right bubble solution and tools.

I’ll give you a few recipes to try out and also a couple of tool ideas. You can have lots of fun experimenting with the mixtures and creating your own original bubble making tools.

Bubble Tools

There are so many things around you that can be used to make bubbles. Wire hangers bent into different shapes, empty milk containers, string, plastic bowls, or even your bare hands held in the right position. Make a circle with your thumb and index finger or make an even bigger circle using both hands’ thumbs and index fingers.

Bubble Solution

The really big bubbles need lots of solution which can get quite expensive. It’s therefor a lot more economical to mix your own.

The best detergents to use are Joy and Dawn detergents but you need to experiment to see what works best for you.
You also need either glycerine or white Karo Syrup. This ensures colorful, sturdy bubbles. Glycerine can be bought from most drug stores, but it is expensive. Karo Syrup is available at the grocery store and is less expensive.
Amazingly enough, not any water is suitable! Hard water does not work whereas soft water does. Try using your tap water, but if you fail to get good bubbles, try using distilled water.

Solution 1:

1 Part Dawn Ultra/Joy Ultra : 15 parts distilled/soft water : 0.25 part glycerine/white Karo Syrup

Solution 2:

1 Part Regular Dawn /Regular Joy : 10 parts distilled/soft water : 0.25 part glycerine/white Karo Syrup

Solution 3:

2 Parts Regular Dawn /Regular Joy : 4 parts glycerine : 1 part white Karo Syrup

Most importantly - just have FUN!

A Beer

October 24th, 2008

A Beer:

‘Hello my name is’, an introduction to a game
A ‘pas de deux’ or maybe a ‘ménage a trois’
Will we ever see ego’s great flaw
All people are really just the same
Be you called Arab or labeled another name
Can we as humanity get beyond
Join Thoreau at Walden Pond
Feel the calm and Peace surround
Free our hopes from sacred ground.

Take off our face
To feel the Grace
Afforded all the human race
Move past Jason and his gold
Welcome Jesus from the cold.

Society is replete with these greetings
Seldom leading to true meetings
Though time is spent
To some extent
Thinking, feeling
Not just stealing
I must conclude most situations
Eschew so much and bring frustrations
Due largely to a lack of truthful teaching
That each of us must dare to be reaching!

My name is Robert, ‘Bob’ I’m called
By much of life I have been mauled
Still I’m here and ‘Still’ is good
I wish all of us really could
Quiet our needs and vain pursuits of ego
Understand more and relish what we know
Hey come over, I am right here
Maybe we can share a beer!

Starting up an Auto Shop

October 22nd, 2008

I own an auto body shop. I’ve been in business for years, and I have a son who’s been working for me while he’s taking some classes at a community college. He’s been taking some courses in business training, along with some body work classes. We’ve discussed his plans for the future; after working on several cars at school, he’s become interested in custom body work, something I haven’t done much of myself. We’ve agreed he needs more experience with the basics right now, but in the future we can discuss plans for a separate business start up of his own. There is even a possibility we can take over the lot next door for his shop. That way he can still work for me while he’s getting his own business off the ground. The other option is for him just to do custom work as part of my existing shop, of course.

He still needs to finish school, so there’s plenty of time to think about it. He’s got a good head on his shoulders, and we get along real well, I’m happy to say. I’m pretty sure if he wants to strike out on his own eventually, he’ll be a business success.

Is This Thing On?

October 20th, 2008

Is This Thing On?
Or, How Do You Know if Anyone is Reading Your Newsletter?

by Jim Schulte
copyright (c) 2003

It seems that every hour a new ezine or newsletter shows up on the Internet. They are endless in titles and content. Everybody has to have one to be successful with the program, product, or service they are offering the millions of “Internet Junkies” in oder to be able to quit their day jobs.

I don’t know who came up with the idea that a newsletter or ezine was an essential document in online marketing, but it appears that “they” were correct in that assumption. If you don’t have a vehicle in which to get your product to market, then you won’t have a market in which to sell your product.

Herein lies the question that many, if not all publishers and editors alike, cannot seem to answer. How do you know if anyone is reading your publication?

If you belong to any of the ad co-ops you know that you get subscribers on a daily basis. You watch your active subscriber count rise on a weekly basis, and your list server gives you endless pie charts that show first time visitors, repeat visitors, most recent visitors, pending subs, active subs, on and on and on.

None of that information tells you if any of those people are reading your newsletter. You know, the one you slave over day after day, week after week, trying to give all of those subs the best you can. So here is the question again. How do you know they are reading your publication?

The truthful answer to that question is, you really don’t know. Unfortunately, in this day and age when we can see an ant colony eating all of the goodies at the annual Martian company picnic, there is no miracle software (not yet anyway) that can tell us if anybody is reading all of these ezines.

It seems like such a simple task doesn’t it? Why can’t we have a sign like Mcdonalds that says, “Over One Billion Read Your Newsletter Today”. Radio and television stations have a ratings book that tell them how many people are watching and listening to their shows. So why can’t we find out how many people are reading our newsletters?

I recently did a survey of publishers with less than 200 subs, and ones with 10,000 plus. They all said the same thing. I don’t know how many people read my publication.

They did however offer ideas on how to get a handle on how many are really reading what you put out on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Some try offering free reports, or information, that always brings out the quiet ones.

One publisher offered this explanation. “I sent out my latest ezine, and minutes later I had 12 new leads that I was certain had to come from ezine readers because of the offer I was making”. That only told him that 12 people read his offer. But how many readers don’t respond to these types of offers, and how do you know THEY are reading the newsletter?

The bottom line to this whole thing is that no one really and truly knows how many people read the ezines and newsletters of the world. I thought that Terri Seymour hit the nail on the head with this quote “I do not know of a way to track the actual reading of an ezine, but I would love to find one”.

I say all of the publishers of the world should just keep banging away on their keyboards and put out the best damn publication they can. When you have no more subscribers, then scrap the whole ezine newsletter idea.

This could be a very hard thing for publishers to do however, because how will they know if they have lost all of their subscribers, when nobody knows how many subscribers read their newsletters in the first place.
