The addition of a new child to a family is a wonderous occasion! An adopted baby is just as much a miracle as any other and should be celebrated as such.

And all babies need “stuff”, even an adopted child, so having an adoption baby shower for this child is not only acceptable, but necessary.

There are some differences you should consider when attempting to plan this a baby shower for adoption. You will need to know the age of the adopted child first of all. Some couples may have adopted a baby, but others may have adopted a toddler or older child.

You will also want to find out if the family wants to celebrate the baby shower for adoption before or after the baby/child is adopted.

For infants, the
basic necessities, such as diapers, clothing, feeding items, and nursery décor are appropriate for adoption baby showers. The parents-to-be of an adopted baby/child should register for baby shower gifts just the same as any other parents.

Though it is rare, some adoptive mothers are able to breastfeed their infants, so you should take care to find out what this mom-to-be will be doing. If she will be bottle feeding the baby, gifts of baby formula will be helpful, though you may want to wait to find out what type of formula she will be using, since there are so many.

Some families choose to acknowledge the adopted baby’s birth mother in some way. In some cases, they have formed a close bond with the birth mother and may choose to include her in the adoption baby shower festivities.

Or they may want to give the birth mother a gift. Discuss with the parents (tactfully, since it is a delicate subject) if this is their wish. Then consider asking guests to bring a gift to the adoption baby shower for the birth mother.

Because this baby is adopted and the mom-to-be is not pregnant, stay away from any maternity-type games at the adoption baby shower, like “how big is Mom’s tummy” or any other such games. You can however, play games to guess the baby’s sex or birth date (if they have not yet been born) for adoption baby showers.

It is important to know the age of the child being adopted in order to know what types of baby shower gifts to purchase. Buying rattles and baby booties for a 3 year-old is not helpful to Mom and Dad!

Parents can still register for an older child at any retailer that has a baby registry for the baby shower. Make sure you have an idea of not only the child’s age, but also what size clothing they wear.

For families adopting an older child, a fun idea is to have a “welcome” party for the child after he or she comes home. Find out the child’s sex, age and what toys or types of entertainment they like.

“Ouch!” reverberated from the kitchen as Leslie opened her front door.

I arrived to pick up my friend and her seven-year-old daughter Kriya to go to the movies. Kriya just burned herself quite severely on a toaster. She came running from the scene of the crime to her mother. The blistered skin on her finger was white, swollen and already beginning to peel off her finger. Kriya was wailing and obviously in great pain. Her mom applied medicated ointment to her finger, but it wasn't relieving the sting of the burn.

“Keith, can you help us out?” Leslie knew I recently completed a course in a healing method called Reiki, a technique involving the laying on of hands. As a caring mother, she pleaded, “Would you do some Reiki on Kriya's finger?”

Without waiting for my response, Leslie turned to Kriya and told her, “Keith has done this healing class, honey. He knows how to cure burns and take all the pain away.”

Of course, I wanted to help if I could. However, I'd finished the workshop days earlier and had yet to use my new skill in a real-life situation.

Buying time to think of a strategy, I softly asked Kriya to let me see her burn. Still sobbing, she hesitantly held the hurt finger up for my inspection. “I'm going to put my hands over your finger,” I said gently, still stalling until I could come up with some strategy. Kriya shook her head and pulled her injured hand away from me.

Help! I instinctively implored whoever was listening above. Silently asking how I could assist her, my heart and intuition clicked in. I knew Kriya had recently seen the movie “E.T.” My inner advisor said, “Tell her it's just like E.T.” I had no idea of where I was going to go from there, but I followed my inner instructions.

Kriya's tears stopped flowing. She smiled and asked, “Oh, you mean when E.T. takes his finger and fixes the boy?”

Scrambling mentally to follow her lead, I blurted out, “Yes, it's just like when E.T. points his finger and the finger starts to glow.”

“Oh, okay,” Kriya nodded, offering the injured finger to me with the trust only a child can give so completely.

Since Kriya wouldn't let me lay my hands on the affected area, I asked silently, What would E.T. do in this situation? Of course, I knew. Very delicately, I extended my index finger to oh- so-lightly touch her outstretched, wounded finger. I whispered softly, “We're going to do just like E.T.”

Her face glowed with anticipation. She relaxed and sighed sweetly, “Oh . . . E.T.”

Kriya, Leslie and I sat together in silence for several minutes. After a timeless interval, Kriya withdrew her finger from our intimate contact. Not only was the pain gone, but also the white, blistered, burned skin had disappeared. Her finger was completely healed. Kriya examined her finger closely just to make sure, rubbing it up and down with wonder.

Meanwhile, I sat there in total awe, listening to Kriya as she whispered faintly to herself, “E.T. . . . E.T.” The tragedy and pain over, she started playing with some marbles, content in her innocence that I fixed her finger just like E.T. would have done.

Any object that moves around the earth has an orbit. The orbit is defined by 3 factors. The first is the shape of the orbit, which can be circular or elliptical. The second is the altitude of the orbit. The altitude is constant for a circular orbit but changes constantly for an elliptical orbit. The third factor is the angle the orbit makes with the equator. An orbit that brings the satellite over the poles or close to it has a large angle. An orbit that makes the satellite stay close to the equator has a small angle.
Orbits depend on the mission the satellite was built for. The following orbits can be defined:

Low Earth Orbit

Satellites in low earth orbit (LEO) orbit the earth at altitudes of less than 2000 km (1242 miles). Satellites in LEO can get much clearer surveillance images and require much less power to transmit their data to the earth.

Medium Earth Orbit
At an altitude of around 10.000 km (6.000 miles) a satellite is in medium earth orbit (MEO). This altitude balances the advantages and disadvantages of LEO and GEO. MEO’s are used generally for navigational satellites and communications satellites
Geostationary Orbit
A satellite in geostationary orbit orbits the earth in exactly 1 day and is placed above the equator. The angle with the equator is 0 degrees. As a result the satellite seems to stand still as seen from the earth. These satellites are used for communications and Satellite TV.

Polar Orbit
An orbit that goes over both the North and the South Pole is called a Polar Orbit. The angle with the equator is 90 degrees. The advantage of these orbits is that they go over the poles. This may sound funny, but in reality most satellites never “see” the poles. Most polar orbits are in LEO, but any altitude can be used for a polar orbit.
Polar orbits are used a lot by navigation satellites which have to provide navigational information all over the world, including the poles.

Sun Synchronous Orbit
This is a very interesting type of orbit. Satellites in Sun Synchronous Orbit pass over the same locations on earth at the same time each day. Suppose a satellite in sun synchronous orbit passes over your house at 3 pm. The next time the satellite will pass over your house is 24 hours later at the same time the next day.

In order to do this the satellite has a very special orbit. Not only does it orbit the earth, but the plane of the orbit changes as well. It has to do this because each day the earth moves a bit through space around. After 3 months, the earth has moved 90 degrees of its orbit around the sun. If the satellites orbit wouldn’t have moved with it, it would show up 6 hours later than planned. (Actually the earth spins around its axis in approx. 23 hours, 56 minutes and 3 seconds and not in 24 hours. Because of the earth’s orbit around the sun, 1 day lasts 24 hours. A star day however is approx. 23 hours, 56 minutes and 3 seconds long.)
However, there is no need to actively change the plane of the orbit. The earth is not a perfect sphere but is a little bit wider around the equator. This is caused by the spinning of the earth. The gravitational difference this causes changes the orbit of a satellite. When the angle with the equator is chosen correctly (approx. 8 degrees of a polar orbit), an orbit is a sun synchronous orbit.
A very special type of sun synchronous orbit is called the dawn-to-dusk orbit. This orbit is above the earth where the sun comes up or goes down. A satellite in this orbit never enters the shadow of the earth but always receives sunlight.

Orbit Decay and Reentry
The earth’s atmosphere doesn’t stop at a certain altitude but really fades out into space. The higher you get the less thick it is until eventually there is no more atmosphere. Generally we say that the atmosphere is about 100 km (62 miles) thick, but in reality it extends much further out into space. Satellites experience friction from the atmosphere up to altitudes of 1000 km (620 miles).

Due to the friction, a satellite will loose speed and with that the altitude will decrease until eventually the satellite will fall out of orbit back to the earth. Depending on the altitude this happens sooner or later. A satellite at an altitude of 200 km (124 miles) will stay in orbit for just a couple of months. At 300 km (186 miles) a satellite can stay in orbit for a couple of years. Above 1000 km (620 miles) a satellite can stay in orbit for thousands of years.
Letting Satellites fall back to earth and burn up in the atmosphere is also a way of disposing of satellites.

Do You Believe These Four Online Slot Machine Myths?

Both you and the other player would have effectively had to hit play at the exact same time that’s within 1/1000 of a second. The odds of this exact play at the exact same time for both players are highly unlikely. In conclusion, don’t feel bad about the player who hit the jackpot after you, it was pure lady luck as they say and nothing more!

2. You can tell the odds of winning by counting the symbols on each wheel
The RNG generates a number for each spin. The number corresponds to the symbols on the Reel. There can be hundreds of Virtual stops on each reel even though you see far fewer symbols. Being able to generate millions of combinations is the reason that online slot machines can offer such large payouts, as the chances of hitting jackpots are rare. You may see 15 reels and calculate the odds as 15 x 15 x 15 1:3,375. However, what you don’t see are the virtual stops, and this could be a 100 or more per reel! At 100 per reel, it would be 100 x 100 x 100, or odds of 1:1,000,000. Ever wondered how they finance those million pound payouts? Now you know!

3. Casinos Can Change Percentage Payouts
No, they can’t! Online slot machines have payouts determined by the computer chip in them that determines the pay back percentage. These are preset and can’t be changed. In order for a casino to change the payback, they would have to change the chip and there are rules and regulations set by online gaming regulators to prevent this. Anyway why bother, the house edge is their profit, and most casinos are more than happy with that! Check the payback before playing, and ensure you do have the best payback before you play. Only online slot machines with payouts of 95% or higher should be played.

4. Online Slot Machines That Have Not Paid Out For While - The Jackpot Is Next!
Each spin of any online slot machine is random and is unrelated to the previous spin. The length of time a slot is played without winning has no influence on its readiness to pay. Any slot can go months or years without paying its top jackpot. It maintains the programmed payoff percentage simply by paying smaller wins.

The above misconceptions are common and as you can see from knowing how the RNG works, it is lady luck that determines the huge jackpot payback as far as the player is concerned.

The only other alternative may be genocide. It seems that the most sensible logical approach is to (1) preserve traditional Muslim values of giving all due praise and worship to Allah, and (2) learning to adapt to change in the world without compromising traditional Muslim values.

A complete rejection of secularism can also lead to a brutal oppressive dictatorship, and eventually destruction of earth. Current technology, as the status quo exist today, creates hardships upon every race, creed, gender, and ethnic origin.

The rejection of secular law by the majority of religious extremist could lead to anarchy. Yes, each of us must be vigilant, burn bright, and shine in our chosen faith communities. However, we must also challenge ourselves to grow by practicing love, tolerance, patience, understanding, and respect.
