Want A Successful Newsletter? Apply The 5 “P’s” …

April 30th, 2009

Online newsletters/ezines number in the hundreds of thousands, and
the total is ever increasing.

How can, and will, you compete?

If you want your offering to stand out, plug it into the 5 “P’s” formula …

Purpose - Are you giving your target market what they want?
Make sure that you provide fresh content, updates on newly released,
related resources, etc., geared to the specific needs and interests of
your subscribers.

How do you find out what they are? Ask them (polls, respond
requests)!
You may also want to look at your industry’s “heavy hitters”.
Subscribe to, and study, their offerings.
Applying the techniques that work for them can help you, as well.

Personality - You simply must develop your own style if you’re going
to
succeed.

This is of extreme importance.

Lose the hype, and interact with your subscribers as if you were
talking to each one honestly, personally.
This will help build a bond of trust, and aids self branding.

Personalize - I’ll say it again, as it’s worth repeating …
Interact with your subscribers as if you were talking to each one,
personally! Use name tags, if this is an available option,
whenever possible (I prefer “first name” only. Having first AND last
looks too automated). If it isn’t, you may want to change your delivery
method to a service that allows them.

Participation - Build interest by featuring member responses.
Testimonials, question and answer feedback, etc.
Showing peer involvement will help fuel interest, spur interaction.

Punctuality - Try to maintain a regular delivery schedule.
Not only will this reflect your dedication to professionalism, and
organization, it gives your readers something planned to look forward
to.
Helpful Hint - Run an article, or free course, *series*, whenever
possible. This will give your members even more of a reason to read
the next, and subsequent, issues.

Well, there you have it.

Match your newsletter up to the 5 “P’s criteria, and I’m sure your
subscribers, and you, will benefit from the results.

To make your newsletter everything it can be, from content to building
a bigger subscriber base, I recommend Paul Myers’ Amazing List
Machine

How to Get High-Quality Fitness Equipment and Save Some Money?

April 30th, 2009

We all know that having your own fitness equipment allows you work out as much as you wish and do it whenever you wish instead of working out at a gym once or twice a week. More and more people today would like to have this or that piece of fitness equipment at home. And they all ask themselves one and the same question:”How to get high-quality fitness equipment and save some money?”

The answer is simple - go shopping online! They offer wide range of goods: elliptical cross trainers, exercise bikes, steppers, ab machines, fitness sets, rowing machines, dumbbells, exercise balls, track shoes, jungle gyms, hydraulic equipment, and much more

The procedure of online shopping is rather simple. You view the assortment, compare prices and terms of delivery at different stores, and choose the equipment you like. By the way, before you place an order make sure that the store you buy in provides a money back guarantee.

It’s one of the key factors in online shopping.
You may wonder why buying online is cheaper in most cases than buying at casual shops. The answer is simple: they do not pay rent for shop and storage facilities, and they also don’t pay salary to shop-assistants.

3. You can’t imagine life without the Cartoon Network.

4. The lock on your bathroom door is purely for decoration…
After all, no locked door could withstand, “Mom? What are
you doing? Mom? Can I come in? Mom? Can I show you
something? Mom? Can I give you a hug? Mom? Can you hear me?
Mom?

5. You have startedor signeda petition to banish the

Hard Subjects: Algebra

April 28th, 2009

Algebra is a significant concept in Mathematics, dealing with equations, inequalities, fractions and expressions . Being one of the leading subdivisions of mathematics, it forms an integral part of primary education. Concepts in combinatorial mathematics, variables, polynomials and factorization are the main areas which algebra deals with. As you move along advance algebraic equations, you will deal with symbols and set theories which allows you to compute unknown values based on predetermined facts.

Algebra and its Relation to Geometry

Geometry works on the complete use of algebra to graph a circle, a hyperbola, a parabola or even finding the focus of a hyperbola. Be it simple operations such as determining the midpoint of a line or finding the radius of a circle, to more complicated operations such as figuring out if a parabola opens up; algebra is most important for geometry.

Solving Exponents and Equations in Algebra

Equipped with knowledge on how to play around with algebra, solving equations involving linear, quadratic or radicals will be no issue. Using algebraic expressions one can solve inequalities and even graph systems of non-linear equations and radical inequalities. If exponents have been messing up your head, a thorough grasp of algebraic expressions will ease the pain allowing you to work through it easily. Algebra works with the Laws of exponents by facilitating one to add, subtract, divide and multiply expressions with ease and self-confidence.

Evaluate Fractions and Polynomials - Try Algebra Calculators

Whether you have problems in solving, comparing or converting fractions, algebra solvers can work their magic for you. The algebra software solves problems posted and is able to produce results immediately. even, complex matrix equations like inverse matrix and other matrix operations can be handled with the algebra calculator software. Thanks to the algebraic solvers, simplifying algebraic expressions, which may involve factoring polynomials or involves determination of the least common multiple, has now been made a super easy task.

Professional Help Within Arm’s Reach

Pupils often get professional help from private instructors who will provide you with a step-by-step solution for your troubles. Math private instructors are at your disposition for those hard problems which can get you easily bugged. The math solvers that are available in today’s market come with numerous options that will suit your every need. When it comes to algebraic software, you will find different functions from algebraic calculators to other functions that can tackle any math problem.

Availability of LPN Classes in Anchorage

April 27th, 2009

The outlook for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) across the United States, as well as in Anchorage, is quite good for at least the next five to eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s online Occupational Outlook Handbook. However, there is some variance depending on the type of job desired. Hospital positions are becoming scarcer and therefore somewhat more competitive, but there is an increase in job openings for LPNs who would like to work in the home care or in-patient rehabilitation fields. This is primarily due to our aging population. Private jobs are still available, as well.

If you would like to take licensed practical nurse classes that will qualify you to take the licensing examination in your state, you should know that there are two main venues that provide LPN classes - technical schools and universities or institutions of higher education. Both of these options are available right in the heart of Anchorage, and they each have opportunities to apply for financial aid.

The Anchorage technical school which provides LPN classes is called the Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC). The University of Alaska at Anchorage also provides an LPN program, and they conveniently offer some licensed practical nurse classes online.

Nursing is a caring yet challenging profession, and one does have to make a clear commitment in order to have a satisfying career. Try making a list of what you like and dislike about the field along with your strengths and weaknesses, and have this list with you as you explore the Web sites of these two LPN programs. Consider calling to ask if you can speak to a few of the graduates of each institution so that you can get a feel for the unique flavor of each place, and to identify any flaws they may have.

Recycle THIS!

April 26th, 2009

Recycle THIS
by Robert Levin

Earlier today I received a notice advising me that the recycling program in my neighborhood has been “rebooted” and that I will henceforth risk “serious fines” if I fail to sort and, in the case of jars and bottles, RINSE my garbage before leaving it out.

I hate to come off as a bad sport, but I’ve got to tell you: In all these years I’ve never once sorted or rinsed my garbage and there’s no way I’m going to start now. I mean, what exactly IS this shit? I don’t even sort and rinse the stuff I keep!

Let me try to explain something here. I would never have had a problem with the chore we’ve been assigned if a vital need to conserve essential natural resources was the given it’s assumed to be and if the claim that recycling saves significant quantities of natural resources was true. But the importance and value of recycling is dubious at best. Summarily ignored, a number of reports (including one in The New York Times) revealed early on that, in fact, we’re not running out of the substances recycling is intended to save. What’s moreand this applies to nonbiodegradable materials that end up as landfill as well as to organic elementseven the industry’s own published (and doubtless exaggerated) figures make it clear that what the recycling process manages to salvage is of no real consequence.

So while I’ll allow that self-immolation would constitute a disproportionate form of protest, I have to say that reacting with less than indignation to so gratuitous an imposition would also be inappropriate. (Particularly when you consider that nowhere in the notice was there mention of a tax rebate for performing what, if it’s to be performed at all, should properly have been a function of the Department of Sanitation from the beginning.)

It’s obviously not as dramatic, but this recycling business had always reminded me of the so-called “oil crisis” of the late seventies. Remember that? Remember how we were told flat out that after decades of witless gorging on a finite resource we’d all but depleted the world of fossil fuels? Remember how, to be sure that we got the message, we were made to endure frantic weeks of gasoline rationing and reduced thermostat levels?

(I know that my senator then, Senator D’Amato will want to cut in here to tell me this was before “Jurassic Park” came out and that at the time we didn’t realize we could make more.

Yessir. That’s an…interesting…point. But, and with all due respect, SIT THE FUCK DOWN!it’s beside the point I was making. Okay?)

The point I was making is that the whole thing was a setup to get us to accept inflated petroleum prices. There was, it turned out, enough oil left under just the backyards of Kuwait’s Emir and Mobil’s CEO to run our quadrant of the galaxy AND keep Pat Riley splendidly coifed for another century or two.

Now I’m aware that it’s not that easy to resist scams like this, even when they’ve been run on us before and there is good evidence to belie the premise on which they’re based. Being mortal, knowing thatat any time and in any number of waysthe most terrible thing that can happen is definitely going to happen, we are obliged to grant at least the possibility of substance to all but the most patently ridiculous warnings of an impending catastrophe. (And, having been handed at birth a sentence reserved for the worst of crimes, we’re not only primed to accept the blame for catastrophes, but more than ready to suffer a little redemptive inconvenience as well.)

StillJesus!as difficult as it may be to defend against our innate susceptibility to manipulation, we could make a better effort. At the very minimum we could reduce the frequency with which we’re victimized by keeping the batteries fresh in our bullshit detectors and never forgetting that, more often than not, the “emergencies” we’re presented with have an agenda behind them.

Recycling, for example, isn’t about saving the planet. (And no, it’s not even about making money for somebodynot really.) It’s about winning the personal salvation (indeed, the recycling) of the limited and earnest types who proposed and continue to insist on it. These people are coming from the secret hope that if they suck up to nature by not wasting any of it, nature will return the favor and arrange to perpetuate their existence in some other package once their current status expires.

Well I, for one, don’t appreciate it when people conscript me into the service of their personal immortality projects, especially when they masquerade as humanitarians.

It’s not that I would, for a minute, begrudge them such a reward. But given its size I think they should be forced to earn it on their own, with no assistance from the rest of us. I can’t speak for nature, of course, but if they stopped by my place a couple of times a week to do their sorting/rinsing thing that would certainly impress ME.

I didn’t say anything about them coming into the house. Along with the trash, I’ll leave my garden hose unraveled behind the shed. They’re more than welcome to go back there and rinse anything it pleases them to rinse.

How strange! The sky is blue!

April 24th, 2009

Look up! Just do it. What do you see? Stupid question, eh? You see the ceiling of course. When you look upwards during a sunny day while picnicking however, you see the blue sky. Ever wondered why the sky is not green nor but blue?

Before answering this question, let’s go back to the basic physics of light. Sorry, but here I go…

Light is a kind of energy, which travels in waves. In fact, light is a wave of vibrating electric and magnetic fields. Light forms only one small part of a larger range of vibrating electromagnetic fields called the electromagnetic spectrum. Electromagnetic waves travel through space at an amazing 300 00km/s. Therefore this is also the speed of light.

When you see white light from the bulb, you are actually seeing the seven colours of the rainbow! This is because white light consists of a combination of these seven colours.

Each of these colours has a different wavelength, frequency and energy. Wavelength is the distance between the crests of the waves. The frequency is the number of waves that pass by each second. Note that the longer the wavelength, the lower the frequency and the less energy it contains.

Violet: Shortest wavelength, highest frequency and energy
Red: Longest wavelength, lowest frequency and energy

Now back to our main topic. That blue colour of the sky is due to an effect known as the Rayleigh scattering. As light from the sun moves towards Earth’s atmosphere, not all the colours are actually able to pass through that atmosphere. Most of the longer wavelength colours do pass (red, orange and yellow for sure) but the shorter wavelength ones however are mostly absorbed by gas molecules found in the atmosphere. Absorbed blue light is then bounced back (radiated would be a better word) in all directions. This makes the shy to appear blue!

You would however ask me why it’s the blue rays, which get scattered, and not the indigo nor the violet rays (the other colours pass through the atmosphere remember - there’s also blue that pass through but it then gets scattered). Well in fact, the shorter the wavelength, the more the colour gets scattered. Violet, which has the shortest wavelength of all colours of the rainbow thus gets scattered more than blue rays do. Our eyes however are much more sensitive to blue than to violet and the sky therefore doesn’t appear to be violet but blue (in reality the sky is violet-indigo!).

Now do take the time making the following:
Take a look at the horizon (if you’re at the seaside) and note the sky’s colour there. No, it’s not as blue as the rest of the sky, is it? It’s much paler. This is because for the blue light to reach your eye, it has to travel more. Blue light will thus pass through more air consequently getting scattered more. Conclusion: less blue light reaches your eyes than compared to blue light from just above you.

Sit Back, Relax And Enjoy A Beer - It’s Good For You!

April 24th, 2009

(NC)Summer is often a time of unabashed enjoyment, when sitting on a patio soaking up the sun makes us forget our long, cold winter. But for some, summer can also be a time of watching waistlines and getting into shape. What may come as a surprise to many is that enjoying a beer this summer can be part of both agendas - and might actually be good for you.

It’s a common misconception that beer is fattening and unhealthy. The reality is that beer, enjoyed in moderation, can provide a myriad of health benefits.

Most Canadian beers, from nationally available brands like Labatt Blue Pilsener to smaller micro-brews, are made from only the finest natural ingredients - water, grains, hops and yeast and do not contain any preservatives. Beer is an excellent source of B vitamins and contains soluble fibre and many antioxidants. Recent studies show that moderate consumption of beer may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stomach ulcers.

So, not only does beer have more of the good things we want, it also has less of the bad things we don’t want. Fat, for example. Beer contains no fat and has fewer calories than most people probably think. When compared to juices, colas and even brown rice, beer actually has the fewest calories.

Did you know

12 oz. serving of Labatt Blue has only 140 calories

12 oz. serving of juice has 180 calories

12 oz. serving of cola has 150 calories

1 cup of brown rice has 214 calories

So, from now on, enjoying a beer does not have to be a guilty pleasure. Enjoyed in moderation, beer is better for you than you may have thought.

For more information on beer visit www.labattblue.ca. Cheers!

Right Hand Guitar Playing

April 19th, 2009

This lesson can open for you a secret of high-speed guitar playing. If take the given technique for 2-3 weeks you’ll feel progress in high-speed playing of complex passages.

The given principle of development of techniques “was tested” not by one generation of guitarists and not only guitarists…

In this lesson we shall concern high-speed technics. Skilled guitarists alredy know that the basic brake in development of guitar high-speed technics is the right hand. Therefore when playing the most ultra-high-speed passages for simplification guitarists play legato (i.e. the right hand does not take some notes, it is done with fingers of the left hand by receptions pull-off, hammer-on) - an example is here:
http://www.ibanez-guitar-players.net/legato-and-guitar-scales.htm

How to achieve speed?

For this purpose it is necessary for guitarist to develop technics of the right hand - fast alternation of pick stroke upwards-downwards (a variable stroke). The more quickly the right hand will make alternating strokes, the quicker the playing will be.

It is necessary to begin from the most usual tremolo (fast recurrence of one note). Triplets are the most effective way of learning to play a tremolo. Try to begin each of your lessons with a tremolo. It develops (and well warms up) the right hand. The tremolo notes must sound dynamically equal (all sounding notes of equal loudness) and with equal tempo.

For example, you wish to learn a high-speed passage. I offer the following simple blues phrase in “A” as an example:

___5_________________8___5_______5______________________
______8___5__________________7______8___5_______________
______________8__7_________________________8___5________
__________________________________________________7_____
________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________

First you need to learn in slow tempo and in convenient key with rational pick strokes. After you’ve done it, play a tremolo of each note, i.e. each note in a passage it is necessary to take three times (if it is the eighth) like this:

___5_5_5________________________________8_8_8___5_5_5__
_________8_8_8___5_5_5_________________________________
_________________________8_8_8___7_7_7_________________
_______________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________

The tremolo should be loud (a silent tremolo does not make effect). Play thus 10 - 15 minutes (with small breaks) up to feeling of weariness in your right hand. The weariness speaks that muscles work as they must do. In my experience each student playing given technique, develops his own nuances. The right hand as though itself finds the most convenient position while playing, - it is only necessary ” to force it to work”. When you are good at playing this passage with tremolo, try to play it in the original.

I often hear a question: ” How many it is necessary to be engaged so that to come to high speed?” - It’s individually. For someone it’s necessary 2 hours, for another 2 days, and for someone it is not necessary at all (i’m kidding :-). Here introspection is necessary, that is you should feel improvement of technics. Clearly one, that the most effective way - “gold” exercise for the right hand.

Play your own passages by this principle, solos, improvizations, rock, jazz and blues phrases… If you have great patience, you will see huge advantage of this technique and feel the results. If you do not see any result most likely you were engaged either incorrectly or insufficiently long. Though it is possible to play legato or tapping, but it sounds less brightly and energetically.
