Kirra Reinvented

January 7th, 2010

Kirra Beach. One of the worlds’ most beautiful and well-know beaches is undergoing an re-modelling as a result of investment funds into the region. Sand relocation, the Tugan bypass, the opening of Southern Cross University and luxurious new skyhomes come together to give this quiet surfing village a much needed lift.

Developments such as Nirvana By The Sea by Niecon which has a mix of the ‘old’ Gold Coast lifestyle with a level of tasteful luxury have breathed a new life into the until recently under-appreciated beauty spot along the Southern Gold Coast.

The State and Local governments have transported sand to Kirra Beach in the hopes to revive the legendary surf break. This sand-pumping project which commenced at 2001 at the entrance of the Tweed River is called to blame. The Queensland Government pledged $1.5 million towards restoration work which Anna Bligh stated “…will help bring back Kirra’s world-famous surf break”.

Southern Cross University (SCU) Gold Coast campus, near the international airport and just 400 m to Kirra opens this year. Students are encouraged to be part of the foundation year experience and enjoy the lifestyle benefits of such a unmatched location.
